JOHN IRVING

John Irving focuses his practice on helping Virginia families move through divorce and other family-law challenges with clear guidance, careful preparation, and steady advocacy. His work is grounded in practical problem-solving and a strong respect for the personal stakes involved in custody, support, and financial decisions.

John earned his B.S. in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University in 1997 and later received his J.D. from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law. He has been admitted to practice law in Virginia since 2005.

Before entering private practice, John built an investigative background that still shapes how he approaches legal disputes today. He worked as a fraud investigator for the City of New York and later served with the Prince William County Police Department, where he received commendations for his work. That experience informs his attention to details, documentation, and the facts that often make the difference in contested family matters.

As a founder and managing partner of Fairfax Divorce Lawyers, John has handled a wide range of civil and family-law issues, including divorce-related matters and disputes involving support and property division. He also writes public-facing, educational resources on topics that commonly arise during divorce and custody cases, including child support, spousal support, and equitable distribution in Virginia.

John’s work has been recognized by the Prince William County Bar Association, including selection as a 2017 Trial Attorney of the Year recipient (Circuit Court). He is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Prince William County Bar Association.

Outside the office, John’s public community involvement has included church leadership, coaching youth sports, and supporting local teams and school programs. He has also been noted publicly for supporting community fundraising efforts benefiting CASA CIS.
